How to Choose a Pulsed Electromagnetic Therapy Device (PEMF)

September 21, 2021

Investing in a therapy device is a crucial asset for your health and that of your loved ones. PEMF mats are essential in maintaining your health, reducing pain and inflammation, as well as wellness. When used regularly, PEMF mats are the best choice to maximize overall health and wellness. When choosing your therapy device, you need to consider your health status, budget, doctor’s opinion regarding your disease or physical condition, and clinical history. However, not all PEMF devices are made to perform the same functions. Therefore, choose a device that meets your needs and requirements. Ask yourself these important questions when selecting a suitable PEMF therapy device.

1. How will you use your PEMF therapy device?

While no PEMF therapy device is made to perform every function, you should choose a device that specifically meets your needs. For instance, if you have a chronic illness or condition, you may require different stimulations than therapies to keep your body healthy. If you want to maintain your general well-being, opt for a device that emits a therapeutic intensity of medium power and has few programs and frequency levels.

On the other hand, if you are looking to relieve chronic pain or face serious injuries, you should pick a device that provides high therapeutic intensities and has two independent channels. Thus, enabling you to use two applicators on different parts of the body that are experiencing pain. However, if you are looking for a device that can serve the entire family, the device should have a range of programs, intensities, and frequencies to meet all members’ needs.

2. What is the technical characteristic of the PEMF therapy device?

You need to consider specific parameters such as the intensity, frequency, and waveform of the device.

Frequency

In PEMF devices, frequency is measured in Hertz (HZ). Low-frequency PEMF therapy applies medium-high therapeutic intensities but at low frequencies (maximum 150 HZ). It is best for the treatment of hard tissues, repair of bone fractures, and post-operative recovery. It is also effective in treating soft tissues, pain, and restoring the correct function of cells. On the other hand, high-frequency PEMF therapy emits high-frequency radio waves ( between 18 and 900 MHz)  but at low intensity. It is more effective in treating conditions affecting soft tissues such as tendons and muscles.

Intensity

Therapy will always be effective even if the device has low, medium, or high therapeutic intensity. However, depending on the condition and the part of the body receiving treatment, some intensity values are more suitable than others. For instance, low electromagnetic intensity penetrates less effectively on parts of the body where the skin is thick, for example, in overweight patients. This doesn’t mean that the therapeutic effect is limited, but it takes longer to achieve the same results than high-intensity therapy.

Waveform

Generally, PEMF devices are designed to improve circulation in micro vessels. These micro vessels are responsible for supplying oxygen and nutrients to body cells as well as removing metabolic waste. Since they make up 74% of our circulatory system, the health of micro vessels determines the body’s overall health. The waveform in PEMF devices is responsible for increasing blood flow at the microvascular level. It acts as a distinguishing factor between high-quality and low-quality PEMF devices.

3. Will you purchase or rent the device?

If you choose to rent the PEMF device, ensure that it is well maintained and sanitized. For patients willing to purchase the equipment, the amount spent on the rental is usually discounted. If you are looking to purchase a device with a low budget, there are excellent PEMF devices on the market with average cost and less than what you would have spent on renting. Chronic diseases and conditions may require continuous therapy, which may be worthwhile and less expensive to purchase.

4. Will the seller/company offer you pre and after-sales support?

Evaluate the company’s support system to determine if you will receive help with the device if need be. Try reaching out to them through a call or an email, explaining your needs and clinical condition, and then asking for advice about the suitable device to choose. How soon did they return your message or call? Were they friendly? Through this, you will be able to tell if they deserve your money and custom.

For after-sales support, find out if the company provides technical support in the event of repairs. Ask if you are required to pay for repairs and how many times will the equipment require repair.

5. Who is your manufacturer?

Find more about the company you’re considering purchasing the PEMF device from. Conduct proper research on the company to know how long they have been in business. Choose a company that has been in business long enough and is reputable. The company should also be around fin the future if you need support, accessories, or spare parts.

NOTE: Before buying the device, ensure that it has the CE marking, which guarantees the user’s safety.

Make sure to follow these key points to help you distinguish the right device from the wrong one. Remember to choose a device that meets your needs and requirements.
